Barnegie Hall Concert

WCTE is hosting a singer-songwriter encore at the Saltbox Inn and you can get tickets!

Featured singer-songwriter Verlon Thompson who worked and played with Guy Clark as a producer, guitarist and song co-writer, and has written songs for famous country music performers such as Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Ann Murray, Trisha Yearwood, Jimmy Buffet, Rodney Atkins and you might know him as the host for Barnegie Hall that airs on PBS.

Joining Verlon for the Barnegie Hall Concert is award-winning singer-songwriter Shawn Camp. Shawn found his success as a songwriter, having co-written hit singles for many country music artists, including Garth Brooks, Josh Turner, Brooks & Dunn, and Blake Shelton, although he continues to record his own material as well.

What is Barnegie Hall:

Barnegie Hall is a new PBS series featuring veteran songwriter and virtuoso picker Verlon Thompson as he sits down with the most inspiring and talented writer/performers in the world for memorable music and meaningful conversation in a breathtaking setting we call Barnegie Hall. Viewers are invited to the weekly pickin’ party with some of the most talented and influential musicians in the world. Hear the stories that inspired the words, and the learn more about the process of making enduring music. This series can be found on WCTE PBS Saturday night.

Oktoberfest 2019 at Jig Head

October 4th · Jig Head Brewing Co Cookeville, Tennessee

Jig Head’s biggest event of the year is back! It will happen the first weekend in October; we’ll have live music, food, games, contests, giveaways, and of course our well-loved Golden Oktoberfest, Hafenmeister.

ALL AGES WELCOME!

BEERS ON TAP: We’ll have two beers available during Oktoberfest:
Hafenmeister — a golden Oktoberfest beer just like what they serve at Oktoberfest in Munich every year (they haven’t served the amber Marzen type beer in over 50 years).
48 Fathom — this is an old-school, easy-drinking, balanced English Porter that’s not too sweet and not too bitter. The perfect dark beer any time of year.

BEER PRICE: Beer will be $5 a pint, tax included. If you buy the 25 oz mug, you’ll fill that huge thing for the same $5!

FOOD: We have a terrific collaboration between two local favorites: World Foods and The Foglight Foodhouse. There will be delicious, plentiful, reasonably priced food on site both days. Here is the menu:
— German Sauerbutt $8 — Smoked pork butt in Jig Head beer with potatoes, cabbage, and onions
— Bangers & German Potato Salad $12 — Bangers sausage boiled in Jig Head beer, warm German potato salad topped with sweet & sour red cabbage
— Double knot with beer cheese 1 for $8 or 2 for $10 — Crispy sourdough pretzel served with beer cheese made with Jig Head’s famous pale lager
— Foglight Jambalaya $8 — A hearty cajun stew of beef, pork or chicken with caramelized onions, peppers, okra, and rice
— Smoked Chicken Leg $12 — Crispy smoked chicken leg served with German cucumber salad

MUSIC:
Friday — Jig Head’s official band, The Smoky Nights, will play from 5 to 9.
Saturday — Southern Sunrise will play from 5 to 9.

GAMES:
We will have a number of organized games during both days, including corn hole, kubb, skittles, the Stein Hoist, and more! Details to come.

Wear lederhosen or a dirndl and get 2 extra raffle tickets!

Tickets go on sale Thursday, Sept. 19 at 12 noon Central time.

PARKING: DO NOT PARK AT THE CHURCH ACROSS THE STREET. Close, convenient parking is available at these locations:
— in the Jig Head parking lot
— at Potter’s Hardware across the street
— at Times Square shopping center next door (just to the South of Jig Head)
— at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church one block North

TN Craft Plateau Silent Auction & Fundraiser

Come join the TN Craft Plateau Chapter to celebrate local craft for a night full of art, music, food (food truck TBA), and locally crafted beer at Hix Farm Brewery, located in Cookeville TN!

With music from David Preston and “The Plateau Ensemble” alongside great food, patio games, and a silent auction hosted and put on by the Plateau Chapter, we hope you come on out to drink some great locally crafted beer or house made Italian sodas and bid on some amazing artwork and or baskets filled with donated goodies from various local businesses in the Cookeville area!

This night is a fundraiser for the Plateau Chapter of Tennessee Craft, a non-profit organization that works to continue and create Tennessee’s fine craft tradition by connecting emerging and experienced makers and the public with resources and opportunities to make their mark on our state’s handmade legacy!

It is also the second day of TN Craft week, which occurs once a year in October from the 4th-13th. Tennessee Craft Week is a collection of craft events and happenings across the state each October. The purpose is to connect and celebrate Craft Artists, the work they create and the businesses that support them. By focusing attention on many craft events in a short time, we shine a spotlight on the collective impact that Made in Tennessee craft has on our culture, community, and economy.

The Plateau Chapter includes and welcomes artists from the following counties, Macon, Clay, Pickett, Fentress, Overton, Jackson, Smith, Dekalb, Putnam, Cumberland, White, Van Buren, Warren and Cannon.

Graduate of Eastman School of Music in Rochester, radio air personality at WKBW Buffalo, WAKY Louisville, WSM Nashville among others. Darrell engages the audience to make them feel “part of the act” and is a expert on The Kingston Trio. Retired from his business as a voiceover artist, producer of commercial radio and television audio and jingles.

Doug Roberts
Vocals, Uke, and Guitar
Native of Kentucky, Doug, while watching The Beatles first performance on The Ed Sullivan began begging his parents for a guitar. One month later he was given a used Silvertone acoustic and began teaching himself to play. By the age of 14, Doug was the lead guitarist of a college rock band. Doug spent over 20 years in radio until opening The Roberts Communications Group, producing radio and television commercials.

Vocals, Bass & Guitar
Jim is a mid-Tennessee native born in Murfreesboro – raised in Nashville. Graduate of Vanderbilt University, former Methodist minister, longtime history and Americana expert and country-folk music buff who now operates a historic tours business. Married in 1975 to Louise Williamson of Welch, Ok. Father to three children and grandfather of two. Lives with wife and youngest son in West Nashville.

Wine, Wags & Waterfalls

Wear your hiking shoes because this is going to be an adventure to see some amazing local Waterfalls!!! Yes Please!

Itinerary:
The day will kick off at Northfield Vineyards where we will do a little wine tasting and purchases can be made for the bus tour.
First waterfall to visit is Burgess Falls State Park then down the road to Twin Falls, Rock Island State Park, Tennessee where we will grab a box lunch from Foglight Foodhouse to enjoy by The Caney Fork River & sip more wine. After lunch we travel across White County to Lost Creek Falls to wrap up our day.

All of this with Michael “Birdie” Birdwell, a Upper Cumberland Hilarious Historical Tour Guide to tell us all about TN history and the waterfalls!

Whats on the Menu: Chicken Salad Croissant or Turkey Club Croissant, pasta salad, fresh fruit.
