One of the questions I receive the most when listing a home is “What steps can I take to make this place show better?” How can you have a great home showing?

Declutter and Depersonalize

The first step toward having a great home showing is to remove clutter and personal items. Clutter just doesn’t look visually appealing, and personalization could possibly “turn off” buyers whose decorating style doesn’t match yours. Removing clutter allows your home to feel much more open and spacious. Also, you’re going to be packing and moving your personal things after your home sells, so you might as well get a head start!

Take a look at how much better a room looks to potential buyers after just removing some things that you’d be packing up on moving day anyway.

Professional Cleaning

Once you have decluttered and depersonalized your home, then comes one of the most important parts of preparing to sell: the cleaning part! Nothing is better than walking into a home and being able to not only see that all the corners, floors, doors, and walls are sparkling clean, but to smell the fresh crisp air.

Yes, you heard right, even the corners are sparkling clean! If you don’t have time or the patience to clean your home, then hiring a professional team to come in and do a full cleaning is well worth your money.  In today’s busy seller’s market, if your home is sparkling clean and priced where it should be, then selling quickly shouldn’t be a problem. This means that one cleaning is all you should have to do! If you’re in an outlying area or you have a specific required payoff as a seller and it’s going to take some time, then it would be a good idea to set up an appointment for your home to be professionally deep cleaned every 30 – 45 days to keep it in great condition for showings.

Cleaning services can be a bit expensive, but it’s definitely money well spent and it will make moving day that much easier when it’s time! You’ll just have to do a quick wipe down on your way out because those hard to reach places will already be clean!
